The conflict of differing ideas produces friction. Are you feeling it all around us? It’s all over the internet, the TV, the radio… It’s the defining aspect of our current government. And do you know that what we see in the culture around us is only a late season fruit of what the Church has been producing for quite some time? It’s an incredibly toxic fruit we call partisanship or camps.
Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. — Isaiah 30:21 NLT
One of the problems with camps is that they typically will only and always lean one direction. What happens if you only turn one direction? You spend all of your time doing circles. You need a right, you need a left, and you need the voice of the Lord guiding and directing you. God allows friction so that we’ll press into Him and press into our diverse community. Friction is synonymous with spiritual growth.
This next Sunday we’ll celebrate our monthly Communion Potluck (if you didn’t receive the signup email, please let me know). Come to our incredibly assorted community with the intention of pressing into the friction. Come ready to seek the mind of Christ together, and come ready to hear from others. Bring your real-life decisions and challenges and allow others in your spiritual family to give their perspectives. Let’s break out of our circular camps and allow the Lord to show us the most excellent way together.
May God fill you completely with joy and peace!
