We Do Not Yet See

“Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.”
— Hebrews 2:8b ESV

Jesus Christ has been given all authority over everything. He said this before He commissioned us to go make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20), “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” The Father left nothing outside of the Son’s control. Yet here is where faith is required: “At present, we do not yet SEE everything in subjection to Him.”

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Though we may look around and see continual rebellion, corruption, and violence, in faith we have assurance that Christ is on the throne. We have been raised with Christ and seated with Him in the heavenly places, and we must now see by faith from this heavenly perspective (Ephesians 2:6, Colossians 3:1). Without faith, we do not see everything in subjection to Jesus. But through faith…

The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool” (Psalm 110:1). For He must reign until He has put all his enemies under His feet (1 Corinthians 15:25). But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until His enemies should be made a footstool for His feet (Hebrews 10:12-13).

We know Christ is King, and as His Kingdom agents we proclaim His victorious salvation. We decree the truth and command His invisible enemies to come under His feet. By the way, the church is His body and therefore we are also His feet. Our worldview is not determined by what we see but by faith in the truth of the eternal and living Word of God. As the Head of the body, Jesus alone determines our view.

We pray according to our faith. Through faith we are restored to right relationship and purpose, and we are recommissioned to the original blessed mandate of humankind: Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, subdue it, and have dominion (Genesis 1:28). We produce the fruit of the Spirit, multiply disciples in all nations, and fill the earth with the knowledge of God’s glory. We subdue every demonic enemy by the power of His name and represent the King’s dominion. His Kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven!

Seeking His face!
