“Zeal for your house will consume me.”
John 2:17b LEB
The word zeal comes from the Greek word zéō, “to boil”. When you boil water, the heat causes the water to bubble up and potentially overflow. To have zeal means that you are hot with emotion for or against something.
Jesus is eaten up by His burning passion for Father’s house. He immensely loves His Father and His Father’s house, and He will aggressively drive out everything that corrupts or defames the house. When David heard the giant Goliath mock Yahweh, he said to the giant, “I come to you in the name of Yahweh who you have defied. I will cut off your head and everyone here will give glory to Him!” David burned with passion for the name of God and to give Him glory.
In Numbers 25:11 (NLT), Yahweh says, “Phinehas has turned My anger away from the Israelites by being as zealous among them as I was.” Phinehas took action against idolatry and sexual immorality in the camp of Israel because he burned with holy reverence for Yahweh and His camp. God said, “Phinehas is as zealous as I am.” This heart for the Lord is accounted to him as righteousness throughout all generations (Psalms 106:31).
Are you zealous for Yahweh, His name, His glory, and His house? Does your love for Him make you boil? Are you eaten up by holy passion for Him and His Kingdom?
Jesus, set our hearts on fire! May we burn to glorify Yahweh in our hearts, our homes, and our communities. May we be crystal clear in our conviction and unwavering in our action for You and Your Kingdom. May we clean house with the zeal of Jesus! May we silence defiance with the zeal of David! May we protect our Kingdom camp against idolatry and sexual immorality with the zeal of Phinehas! Zeal for the Lord, consume us!
Seeking His face!
