This weekend begins the new Biblical year 5784, the Year of the Door. Are you ready? Luna and I talked a little bit about this in our weekly podcast, Higher Ramblings.

In Matthew 25, Jesus shares a story about ten virgins waiting at a door. Only five were ready to go in when that door opened. Then the door was shut, and the five unprepared virgins were left out. In this special year we’re about to have a kairos (God timing) moment. The Lord is going to open doors of Kingdom opportunity, but are you ready?

People are calling this the Year of the Door because the number 4 in Hebrew is a character which actually means “door, threshold, humble, lift up”. The Lord is going to open doors for the humble to be lifted up. But we also need to be aware that He’s not messing around. In the Strong’s concordance all of the words in the Bible are given a number so that you can look up that word in the original language and its definition. If you look up 5784, you find the Aramaic word “ur”. It’s only used one time in the entire Bible, in Daniel 2:35.

Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like the chaff [ur] of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

Daniel 2:35

Chaff is the worthless, discarded husk that’s winnowed and threshed out of the wheat. In Daniel there is an intermixture of different elements that represent worldly kingdoms. When it comes into direct conflict with the Kingdom of God (the Rock), these worldly kingdoms are smashed and blown away like chaff. This concept ties well to what Paul told the church in Corinth.

Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw — each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

1 Corinthians 3:12-15

In 5784, God is going to open doors in order to elevate the humble, but no intermixture will be permitted. It’s like we’re being invited to a formal party. Even though we have an invitation, we’re only getting in if we’re dressed appropriately.

“And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Matthew 22:12-14

Prepare your heart for this weekend. As we head into 5784, ask Holy Spirit to reveal any intermixture in your life. Have you harbored any idolatry or sexual immorality? Have you been operating according to the world in any ways that conflict with how you know God is leading you? Have you valued anything or anyone more than you’ve valued a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? When the door opens, you will have the opportunity to step through; but then that door will close behind you. In order to go through doors, you have to be willing to leave some things behind.

Ask the Lord for clarity in all of this. What is He wanting to show and tell you? From sunset September 15 to sunset September 25 will be ten special days of seeking the Lord with all of our hearts. Join us on Saturday as we discuss more about what God is saying. Let’s step through God-appointed doors together.

Let’s get ready!
